"I love that we all work together to protect and save lives. Every piece of the puzzle is so important to achieving our goals. I have such an appreciation for the awesome people and culture that I get to be a part of every day."
Nick Hunter, Principal Design EngineerMelksham, United Kingdom
"As part of the Product Development team, my role is to create innovative ideas for respiratory protection equipment and transition these to real products that can be mass manufactured. We combine art, business, and engineering to make products that advance the capability and improve the operational effectiveness of our users.
I enjoy working at Avon Protection as we have a great team dynamic, there is always something to learn or a new problem to solve and that pushes me to do better work."
David Demster, Manufacturing EngineerIrvine, California
"Working at Avon Protection has allowed me to be a part of various manufacturing processes. At times we do have to wear different hats but that is the amazing part of working here. Some days I am a manufacturing engineer, working on processes and lean. Other days I am a packaging engineer or a document control clerk. In the 15 plus years I have been here I have gained much knowledge in this company but also the team that I do work with are the finest. Without a talented team my job would be very difficult but we all do pull together when needed because there are days when we have to. I am very proud to be a part of making products that protect our service men and women."
Martyna Pichla, Laboratory TechnicianMelksham, United Kingdom
"I started my adventure with Avon Protection as a Production Inspector and then held the role of Quality Auditor, gaining experience with materials testing and inspection. These roles motivated me to become more ambitious and I recently joined the ARTIS team, who provide research and development capabilities for Avon Protection, as a Laboratory Technician. Like all of us, I had science lessons at school which I enjoyed, but I never thought I would have a future in science.
I'm in this position now because of the support from other people who believed in me more than I believed in myself and I imagine many young girls and women have these same thoughts. I was invited to a Master’s presentation and discussion of women in engineering by my colleague, inspiring woman to break the stereotypes and it was my colleague who inspired me to take this path. A wise woman once said: “We women are afraid to reach higher, because we are afraid of being imperfect”.
For me, celebrating International Women and Girls in Science Day is so important to inspire more young women. I’m proud to be able to share my STEM experience so far, and demonstrate how being brave and trying new things is exciting. I’m finding every day brings new challenges and no one day is the same, giving me the opportunity to learn something new every single day and push myself. There is still a long way for me to go but I’m sure I’m heading in right direction."
Eliot Ball, Process Improvement EngineerMelksham, United Kingdom
"After completing the graduate scheme and completing the 4 6-month placements I decided my skillsets were best suited for working on fast paced, operations-based engineering projects. I joined the operations team, and specifically working in improvement projects until finding a niche in Continuous Improvement. I developed the specific skillsets through external training and project work and worked with senior leadership to put more emphasis on Process Engineering, and Continuous Improvement in the manufacturing environment. Since this, Avon Protection have invested in a specific department to work on Continuous Improvement projects, and I have been a key part of this journey over the past 2 years."
Isabella Evans, Production OperativeMelksham, United Kingdom
“What I really like about working for Avon Protection is the people. At Avon Protection, everyone’s opinion matters. I also really like the amazing hamper that every employee receives at Christmas, it says a lot about how the company cares and looks after of the employees, regardless of their position. Finally, I have found the Training and Development opportunities exceptional, there is plenty of training on offer to everyone interested. For example, I was recently included in a team carrying out a Kaizen (continuous improvement) initiative on the shop floor."
